Introduction to Colorado Divorce Certificates

This article is designed to help you get a Colorado Divorce certificate.  Divorce Certificates are a bit more difficult to obtain than Divorce Certificates and Death Certificates.  The main difficulty in obtaining Divorce Certificates is that states have not been registering Divorces for as long as other vital records.  There are some states that still do not register Divorces.  Due to this lack of centralization it is common to contact the county in which the Divorce took place.

Dissolution (divorce, separation and annulment) records for the entire state are available for the following years: 1851 to 1939 and 1968 to present. Verifications for the years 1940 to 1967 are not available from the state and must be obtained from the county where the dissolution was decreed.

• Legal Representative of an Authorized Person of Person Named on the Colorado Divorce Certificate
• Genealogist representing family with proper credentials of Person Named on the Colorado Divorce Certificate

In Person in Colorado: You may go to any county health department in the State of Colorado to obtain a certified copy of a Colorado Divorce certificate. Most Colorado Divorce certificates can be issued while you wait.
